1 year 3 weeks ago     googolos says : Most people will look at this movie and think it is a cute story and miss all the genius of what Cahill has captured in this brilliant tale. Once you "catch on" to what is being said "behind" the story you become in tune to the real art of this film. Yet it is so simple as all great art is. The metaphorical and symbolistic signals in this seemingly simplistic story cut to the core of our modern human existence and our own individual quests to find meaning and purpose in this modern world of increasing rules and homogenity that confine and stifle the faith of believing in our own true identity and destiny. "The fear of the unknown"! Two quick examples. Remember Charlie's first attempt at suicide? He was hanging himself from a chandelier in a dark room. A source of "light" being used to create darkness or death. Yet his final death came in the darkest of places and yet was so illuminating because he had found his true salvation! Pure irony! His presence in his daughter's world ( a woman-child ) revealed the dirty dishes of Charlie's existence. Yet her child-like faith kept her on this quest with him even though her woman-worldly existence kept her from truly believing. The "gold" which is a symbol of salvation ended up in the "dishwasher" from Costco, the ultimate symbol of modern life and the salvation of Charlie's soul all wraped up in a neat little package purchased with a credit card given to her in "her name" from Charlie. Genius. Notice how we never really see salvation? There are so many more tidbits of wisdom in this movie. All the tools of modern existence are used to find the opposite of what those tools represent. Remember when he put the air tank on in the Costco? "This place has everything"!!! The reviewer for the times has missed it. The money for his quest came from modern society itself and that ever avialable credit card that sucks us all into the vortex of the "machine"! A tool of today's modern Bipolar Treasure Hunter! Do you have one in your name? His faith was unwaivering! Modern bankruptcy is insignificant compared to finding your true salvation! This movie is a gem of wisdom and true 3-D art that will be missed by most. Take a look again and see the "map" of treasure in this great film!
