Jerry hires two men to kidnap his wife so he can get his rich father in law to pay the ransom of $1 million. Once the ransom is paid the kidnappers will get $40,000 and Jerry gets the rest. That's the plan, but what happens is something totally different. Blood is shed when a cop and two innocent people are killed. Marge Gunderson is the Chief who investigates the murders. While Marge investigates, Jerry gets involved in deeper problems, ranging from financial troubles, to threats from the kidnappers.

3 months 3 weeks ago zezidud says : Fargo is my all-time favorite movie. It's just brilliant, but like any true work of art it defies description. Let me put it this way -- The best stories (books, plays, moves, short stories, whatever) are executed with a light touch, usually humorous, but underneath the surface there is a very dark center -- like a chocolate bar with candied snake venom inside. Fargo is utterly hilarious -- about a crime planned by an idiot (played wonderfully by William Macey) and carried about by a pair of doofus criminals (one of whom is played by Steve Buscemi), and then there's the policewoman who goes after them (played by Francis McDomand) -- and the narrative keeps shifting perspective and following unexpected pathways, all the while poking a sharp stick in the eye of middle-american culture--- skewering it with unwavering accuracy. Fargo is a perfect movie, maybe the only one I've ever seen. Watch it.

11 months 1 week ago Kaye Roberts says : New In Town: clever, funny comedy. Renee Zellweger is terrific as a Miami girl stuck in cold blustery Minnesota. I did think that Harry Connick Jr was somewhat miscasted as her love interest. Nothing against Connick, I like his singing and all, and he seems earnest enough, but I thought Hollyw could have done a better job.

Like many of their films you will probably enjoy it on the first viewing, but its true greatness will reveal itself more gradually after a few more viewings.
